Hi everyone,

The westchester over 40 on Sep 9-10 mentioned toward the end of the email
below may be a good opportunity to get into tournament shape if you're in
the golden years or well on your way there!

Next year the world veteran table tennis championship is in the US Las
Vegas:

We already suffer at the hands of the old ( and "infirm" as they would have
you believe at the start of each match so they can have the last laugh ...)
at the club. Not too early to start practicing to face the wiliest TT
players the world has to offer.

I am interested in a team trip to Westchester so please let me know if sep
9-10 are a possibility and you are interested in the Westchester tournament.

Dear Ponger,

This weekend, August 26-27, is the August Westchester Open. Kai Zhang
(USATT-rated 2676) has just returned from China, where he won two
high-level tournaments this summer, and he'll be gunning for his 20th(!)
title at Westchester.

Special events this month:
• Over 40 + Under 2000 -- players must be 40 years or over *and* have
a USATT rating under 2000
• Hi-Lo Doubles
• Handicap -- with the usual handicapping

Also special this month: For anyone competing in the open event on Sunday
who is rated under 2500, and who also competes in at least one other event,
you can deduct $10 from the entry fee. For anyone rated under 2400, with
the same condition, deduct $20; and under 2300, deduct $30. Just mention
this when you register.

Spectators are free on Saturday. On Sunday the cost is $10 to watch, or
free for a child accompanying a paid adult.

Also, coming up:

• *2nd Westchester Over-40 Open*  ... for players 40 years and over, will
take place Saturday and Sunday, *Sept. 9-10*. There are numerous events for
various age and skill levels. Prizes total almost $3,000. And the top
players will qualify for the National Over-40 Championships, which will be
held in December, at Westchester -- *with $13,000 in prizes*! More info is
