Dear All,
I appreciate all those speak up for the best interest of the club.
I agree that we have fairly good open play rules on Saturday. While I admire Mark's courage to stand up for the rules, I would think that it is everyone's responsibility to honor the rules, rather than relying on currently less skillful members' efforts to uphold the rules.
Concerning the mingling, I have a thought to share. Perhaps, for a month that has a fifth Saturday, we are to make it the mingling Saturday. It is still list based for fairness. But most tables, if not all of them, will have a 'big' and 'small'. Up to the two players comfort level, the big could coach the small between games and such. This way a small, on that Saturday, might have opportunity to play and get various advice from several big players. At same time, at the minimum, the big players might get a sense that they truly contribute positively in making the league stronger and more fun. Just my two cents if appropriate.

All,
Having played Saturday mornings for many years I would like to reiterate that the rules as they exist seem to have worked well. It is up to us (the players on the weak side) to enforce these.
If the ‘good players’ choose to play on the ‘weak side’ they have no choice but to play with the existing rules and must play with next player on the list.
I for one stand up for these rules, as you all should too.

Yes I unfortunately have seen that in my own experience on playing on Saturdays. While I do understand that playing with an opponent of lesser skill is not quite as much fun, I do think that good sportsmanship and helping other players improve their skills is an important part in making all members of the club feel welcome.

Hello Vaibhav and the rest of us tt enthusiasts,
First:
I am sorry that anyone would feel that they are being excluded based on their exposure or skill level. The aspect of this sport that I value very highly is that it is highly accessible yet athletically demanding, the versatile nature of play enables people with many abilities to find the best route to optimizing their success. I very strongly feel that there is no right way to play -- there may be more efficient techniques -- but these are not to be looked down upon as inferior, just different and debatable.
Next:
I think saturdays are meant for people to mingle and to allow cross pollination between the various experience and skill levels. No one should be restricted from playing on any table provided that they are on the signup sheets. I think the two match limit on a table mostly works, we should probably work on getting play sheets organized for the saturday sessions. There should be open play supervision -- possibly in two shifts -- open play directors should be authorized to set and enforce rules and ensure lists are followed as soon as there are people on the bench. Perhaps some kind of signage might be possible to create as well as list sheets instead of scrap paper (print them out and put them on the tournament clip boards with a pen/pencil attached
There should be space for
-- date of play at the top,
-- player name
-- start times
-- type of match played
-- limited time or matches when there are people on the bench
-- practice games because of lack of bench players
I think saturdays are really important for the club to attract and maintain members as well as improve the level of play to ensure we have people breaking into the "big league" -- (or is it bigly? -- to borrow a presidential phrase :) ). I know that regular club practice has been the way I improved over the years (just my opinion while sitting and writing this -- when I go out and lose though .... I need psychiatric help , where are you Dr. Soffer? Don't even get to see you on mondays )
Please moderate this rant if you think its unreasonable -- I think this discussion is important to have on the forum as well as in the executive meetings.
Regards,
Burair

I noticed some strange behavior today( open table) from so called "big" players, where they showed relucatance to play with not so skilled players like me. My understanding is that there are separate tables for such players. And if they truly believe that they are wasting time playing with "smaller" players, then they should probably stick to their section.
This behavior is very demotivating for players like me who look for opportunity to learn from better players.
Please let me know if my understanding in how open table on Saturday works is not accurate.
Thanks
Vaibhav
