Greetings,

Recently we’ve received questions on how an Unrated player may register for an event that is rated. How do they know what they can and can’t register for?
The Answer: You can register for any event other than 51 point Handicap and Doubles.
The estimation we establish will be just that, an estimation but if you’re unrated, you choose what events you want to play in and we’ll put you in that event. Your matches will be recorded and used to establish your initial rating.

As an example, If you feel you’re around a 1400 player, you may want to register for events that will help you get the rating you desire. It’s that simple. We won’t stop you from registering for potential lower events because those matches will count toward your calculation and will not hurt the rated players who are competing. The unrated match/game scores aren’t used toward the other players until your initial rating is established. The only stipulation is that an unrated player may not advance off their table and may not win the event.

The tournament is around the corner and many haven’t registered that have said they plan to. I anticipate some lockouts so get your spot locked in if you can.

>
> The team may include unrated players. Our tournament committee will be the final decision on determining the players estimated rating for this tournament but we will need to know your good faith assessment if we haven’t seen you before. If you can provide an example of how you do against players at a similar USATT level, that may be of assistance.
> Since it’s an estimate, there is no way to ensure team accuracy so we will not allow that team to win their group prize (trophy or cash). This would be unfair to players with official ratings and ensuring the within 300 point delta requirement between teammates.
> The unrated player will need to become a USATT member by at the least paying for a USATT Tournament Pass at this tournament.
> All match results will count toward ratings for both the rated and unrated player. The ratings, adjustments, and more are all determined by USATT after we submit results.
> Teams that contain at least 1 unrated player are considered to be an official team if registered and paid and will not be bumped out for a team that has 2 USATT rated players that register later.
>
> Based on this, we anticipate many more registrations coming in over the next few days, and in turn, will cause the event to fill up fast. Get yourself registered as soon as you can.
