changes and general information

Hi everyone,

A happy new year to all of you. I want to take this opportunity to thank
each of you for your support of the club, if you have been a member of the
leagues or open play over the past year; or, if you are just interested in
hearing about what's new and happening in this club, I want to thank you
for your time in reading our emails.

It has been a privilege for me to join the executive committee of the club
this year -- a group of committed individuals who are fun to talk with, and
are responsive and creative with ideas and suggestions so we can keep the
club a fun place and take it further in promoting table tennis as a sport
with all its health, wellness, social and mental benefits.

I have a few new features/announcements about our mailing list, website.
management and outreach to share, this is a bit lengthy so won't blame you
if you skip reading. If you want me to explain personally or have questions
on anything, you can catch me warming the bench as usual at the club.

N.B. If you read to the bottom I saw a deal from Amazon.com today that you
may find interesting .... sort of an early treasure hunt ;)

*Mailing List*

Our mailing list is being phased out of Yahoo groups. This was because
Yahoo had implemented a policy of not allowing users to register for the
mailing list without a Yahoo account and some people do not need/want a
Yahoo account. So we took an opportunity to change services and move our
mailing list to its own little niche on the internet. The new mailing list
address is:

gvttc.general@gvttc.com

Please route all email to the members of the old list to this new list. For
a short time all email to the old list address will still be sent to
everyone, but please try to transition to the new list address and update
your address books.

Here are a few pages to bookmark if you want to see old archives or want to
change your mailing list options:

Subscribe to list and view basic list info:
http://www.gvttc.com/gen_list_info

View archives of past messages to this list (note the archives are
practically empty right now since this is a brand new list):
http://www.gvttc.com/gen_list_archives

Unsubscribe:
http://www.gvttc.com/gen_list_unsubscribe

The archives are public and accessible without the need to login to
anything. You can subscribe, unsubscribe and re-subscribe via the links
above. If you have an account on the gvttc.com website you should be able
to view the current status of your subscription by clicking on "My Account"
in the top right corner of the site -- then selecting the "Mailiing Lists"
tab.

*Website*

There's been a change in the look of the website as well as the web address
of the pages within it, this may or may not impact some of your bookmarks:
-- All sub pages in the website which were of the form:
http://www.gvttc.com/drupal/somepage
now point to
http://www.gvttc.com/somepage

-- i.e. there is no "drupal" anymore in any of the website addresses --
this makes our web addresses shorter.

There are additional new features which I will be adding in the next few
months which will revamp our handling of the stats, making it cooler,
faster, more efficient and remove some load off the directors.

*Management*

There are brand (smashing -- can't say spanking because that's not proper
table tennis .... ) new email addresses for all of the people serving in
executive positions on the executive committee of the club, the league
directors and the head coach:

E-Mail Person(s) the email goes
to
president@gvttc.com Roger Haidvogel
vicepresident@gvttc.com Burair Kothari
treasurer@gvttc.com Dustin Zemaitis
leaguedirector@gvttc.com Ray Mack, Dan Emord, Marc Maronian
headcoach@gvttc.com Ray Mack

*Outreach*

Finally Ray Mack has a new blog with his first entry already available:

http://www.gvttc.com/coach_rays_blog

Please stay tuned for more on the stories and blogs front -- I want to get
some people to volunteer their table tennis stories, picture and videos
(from any time and any place) and I will either put them up myself or allow
you access to create and edit your own entries. There is a reporter from
the Democrat and Chronicle who is interested in posting our stories on her
more widely accessed blog as well. These stories I think have to be more
general and of interest to the public outside of our club, here is the text
of the email she sent (and her address -- if you would like to contact her
directly):

*Thanks for article on ping pong (Table Tennis)*
------------------------------
*Singer, Patti *<psinger@democratandchronicle.com>Mon, Dec 22, 2014 at 8:36
AM
To: Burair Kothari <burair.kothari@gmail.com>

Hi, Burair,

Thank you for letting me know.
