As we discussed in the seminar, the US Department of State$B!G(Bs mail-in visa*
revalidation program (domestic visa re-issuance service) will end on July
16, one week from now. There is still time to apply; please let us know
if we can help.
*Note: the visa is a document that is required for authorized entry into
the US from abroad. The visa is permanently affixed to your passport; its
validity period may differ from your period of authorized stay in the US
as evidenced by the small white "Arrival-Departure Record" card (Form
I-94) that was stapled to your passport when you last entered the US.
Once you are inside the US, your period of authorized stay is governed by
Form I-94.
After the discontinuance of the visa revalidation service, applicants who
would have been able to revalidate their visas in the US will generally
use one of the following two options: (1) application at the border
(Canada/Mexico), or (2) application in Japan. Information on the
interview appointment system at specific US visa processing posts may be
found at <http://usembassy.state.gov>.
I would welcome an opportunity to discuss this and other pressing US
immigration events affecting the landscape of Japanese technology
professionals with you; I would also welcome an opportunity to introduce
to you to our firm$B!G(Bs dedicated Japanese immigration matter team, Associate
Attorney Laura Walpert and Paralegal Sachiyo Tsuchida (fluent in Japanese).
