9月30日に、HPのRFIDプログラムの責任者（CTO）のSalil Pradhan氏を招いて
RFIDのセミナーを行います。今回はRFID技術の概要、標準化、最先端の技術動向
を紹介する講演と、HP研究所グループによるデモを予定しております。大きな可
能性を持つRFIDにつき第一線で働く方々のビジョンを聞くことのできるレアな機
会ですので、奮ってご参加下さい。

Salil Pradhan, Cyril Brignone, Mehrban Jam (Hewlett-Packard
Laboratories)下記英語部分に講師略歴があります。

概要：　
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification）は電波を使った非接触の自動認識技術
です。元々はサプライチェーンや在庫などの物流管理のために開発された技術で
すが、他にもIDカードによるゲート管理、自動車のゲート課金システム、マラソ
ン大会での選手の記録管理など幅広い用途で利用されています。日本ではSuica
（JR東日本）やIcoca（JR西日本）といった運賃精算やNTTDoCoMoによるFelica
（お財布ケータイ)、スキー場でのリフト券などで使われ、非常に身近な技術に
なっています。

Hewlett-Packard社は研究所で長年RFID技術の研究開発を行っており、プリンタ
のインクカートリッジの検出などに応用しています。またWal-Mart、Tesco、ア
メリカ国防総省(DOD)などの顧客に対して物流管理や分隊管理などのソリュー
ションを提供しています。

当日のアクセス：Page Mill RoadとPeter Couttsの交差点を、Peter Couttsとは
逆側に入ってください。Page MillRoadを101方面から来た場合は左折、280方面
から来た場合は右折してHPの構内に入ります。そのまま直進して、ゲートを越え
ます。警備用の建物は今は使われていないので無人です。適当な場所に駐車し
て、Building3のロビーからお入りください。なお、ゲートは夜8時には閉まるの
で、必ずそれまでに御来場ください。また、セミナー終了後はこのゲートが閉
まっていますが、その手前まで車で進むと自動的に開きます（退場のみ)。

概要：
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a proven technology that has
been around since the early 1970’s. However, the promise of improved
supply chain visibility and management, real time logistics and
inventory control in operations has been limited by the lack of
standards, the lack of a systematic approach and cost. Due to the
efforts of EPC(Electronic Product Code) Global and its member companies
this is now changing. Hewlett Packard has been a leader in this field
and was an early adopter of RFID technology within its own operations.
HP is also a producer of RFID-enabled goods and a proven innovator in
the RFID Field offering consulting, technology solutions and enterprise
applications. This talk will review the current RFID landscape, survey
the RFID Developmental Roadmap and provide a vision for RFID Technology.

講師の紹介
- Salil Pradhan is the Chief Technology Officer for the HP RFID Program.
He also heads RFID and sensor network research at HP Laboratories for
comprehensively and securely tracking objects, their interactions and
the environmental conditions, at the lowest possible cost. The work is
important to business for supply chain management and asset tracking. He
is a frequent speaker at technology conferences. Prior to this role, he
has lead development of key technologies in areas ranging from mobile
computing to compiler technology.
Prior to joining HP, he co-founded Tendril Software, Inc for automating
software development and maintenance process. Pradhan received his MS in
Computer Science from Northeastern University. He has written several
technical papers and has over 50 patents in various stages of processing.

- Cyril Brignone is the manager of the Sentient Solution project at
Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, Palo Alto, California. His research
interests include sensor networks, RFID systems and tracking/monitoring
technologies. Brignone received an MS in computer science from Ecole
Centrale de Lyon, France.

- Mehrban Jam is the Senior Scientist at the Sentinent Solution Project
at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, Palo Alto, California. Jam received
Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics from Tokyo Institute of
Technology and MS in Computer Engineering from University of Southern
California, Los Angeles.
