[gvttc general] The " big players"

Hello Vaibhav and the rest of us tt enthusiasts,

First:

I am sorry that anyone would feel that they are being excluded based on
their exposure or skill level. The aspect of this sport that I value very
highly is that it is highly accessible yet athletically demanding, the
versatile nature of play enables people with many abilities to find the
best route to optimizing their success. I very strongly feel that there is
no right way to play -- there may be more efficient techniques -- but these
are not to be looked down upon as inferior, just different and debatable.

Next:

I think saturdays are meant for people to mingle and to allow cross
pollination between the various experience and skill levels. No one should
be restricted from playing on any table provided that they are on the
signup sheets. I think the two match limit on a table mostly works, we
should probably work on getting play sheets organized for the saturday
sessions. There should be open play supervision -- possibly in two shifts
-- open play directors should be authorized to set and enforce rules and
ensure lists are followed as soon as there are people on the bench. Perhaps
some kind of signage might be possible to create as well as list sheets
instead of scrap paper (print them out and put them on the tournament clip
boards with a pen/pencil attached

There should be space for

-- date of play at the top,
 -- player name
 -- start times
 -- type of match played
-- limited time or matches when there are people on the bench
-- practice games because of lack of bench players

I think saturdays are really important for the club to attract and maintain
members as well as improve the level of play to ensure we have people
breaking into the "big league" -- (or is it bigly? -- to borrow a
presidential phrase :) ). I know that regular club practice has been the
way I improved over the years (just my opinion while sitting and writing
this -- when I go out and lose though .... I need psychiatric help , where
are you Dr. Soffer? Don't even get to see you on mondays )

Please moderate this rant if you think its unreasonable -- I think this
discussion is important to have on the forum as well as in the executive
meetings.

Regards,

Burair
