GVTTC,
As mentioned at our last banquet, the EC has approved a 6 month focused coaching strategy designed to improve our play across the board by attracting the best player ever to come out of Rochester, AJ Carney to take a personal interest in a club he adores. AJ has agreed and we’re ready to roll!. Assuming all goes well, we will continue after the 6 month window.
AJ Carney - Bio
———————————
USATT Rating - current 2413
Consistently over 2400 since 2016
Managed Triangle Table Tennis club from 2014 - 2019 (https://www.triangletabletennis.com)
Grew the club from 125 active members to over 350 active members over 5 years
As an example he grew an Under 1300 rating level league with 24-30 participants to 4 different days due to the increased member count.
Created and ran over 25 USATT tournaments as tournament director during that time
Licensed ITTF Level 1 Coach
Coaching - 9 years (Camps/Clinics, group lessons, and private lessons)
Original Home Club - GVTTC
AJ has been doing this for a long time and as they say “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” AJ will be designing and implementing all coaching initiatives, tournaments, leagues (Not touching Monday League or Classic League), new player outreach, facility improvements and more. The ultimate goal is to attract new members and improve the overall skill at our club. Being that GVTTC has been around for around 100 years, we’ve been able to organically grow to a point where we’re a fantastic platform for players to get started and improve. We’ve also been known to have a lid as we never really had a large base of over 2000 rated players where we could build on. There are clubs that have been around a FRACTION of the time we have but enjoy faster growth trajectories for both member count and level of play. Most of that has to do with what we’re now engaging in with AJ.
What to expect?
———————————
Starting in July 2019, AJ will visit Rochester for around 10 days a month where he will be organizing many training opportunities. Those dates are being finalized as we speak. Be on the lookout for future communications and methods to signup for the following.
- 1 day camps
- 1 on 1 trainings
- Small Group Training
- Junior Programs
- Coaching Training - Creating coaches with consistent approach
and more ….
AJ will also be responsible for running all tournaments by using some success formats Triangle Table Tennis still enjoys today. We’re excited about bringing one of our top players back home to help this club achieve the levels we finally deserve.
P.S. The current junior program being run by Horace Byfield will not be impacted. Continue to participate for it’s entirety and as always thank you Horace Byfield!!!
Sincerely,
Andre Maronian
President GVTTC
